Red Bull is concerned that its Formula 1 rivals could 'trap' it by not improving their internal combustion engines, preventing Red Bull from updating its own engine. The FIA's ADUO process ranks manufacturers based on their engine performance, and Red Bull is currently ranked as the benchmark.
If the FIA's rankings remain unchanged, Red Bull may be unable to bring performance developments to its engine, as the ADUO process does not force other manufacturers to improve their internal combustion engines.
Red Bull team boss Laurent Mekies acknowledged the risk, stating that it is vital for the team and the sport to get the ADUO rankings right. The FIA is reviewing its ADUO data, and a final decision is expected soon.
