Fabio Quartararo’s Yamaha MotoGP engine blew up on lap five of the Aragon sprint, ending his race after he struggled to 17th in qualifying. The 2021 world champion said he noticed power loss immediately, with the engine gradually worsening before failing completely.
He recalled feeling the issue from the start of the sprint, adding that the problem mirrored an engine failure he experienced in Thailand earlier this year. Quartararo admitted uncertainty over which engine from his limited allocation failed, noting Yamaha’s slow pace all weekend.
Testing new parts, including a chassis Quartararo called “worse” than his standard setup, dominated the weekend. He described his role as more of a test rider than a racer, jumping between bikes to evaluate performance rather than chase results.
