Ai Ogura’s MotoGP title hopes took another hit after the Trackhouse Aprilia rider underwent surgery on a left thumb fracture in Barcelona. The operation plated the injury, but the team has not set a recovery timeline, leaving his San Marino Grand Prix participation unclear.
The injury occurred during training ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix, forcing Ogura to miss the event. Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori replaced him for the weekend. Trackhouse plans to reassess Ogura’s condition this weekend to determine next steps, including a possible rehabilitation plan.
Ogura, third in the standings with 37 points behind Jorge Martin, has been MotoGP’s breakout performer in 2026. His season includes a maiden victory at Assen and three other podiums, though a recent technical issue at the US Grand Prix ended his race prematurely. He will join Yamaha’s factory squad next season, partnering Jorge Martin.
