McLaren is waiting to upgrade to the latest Mercedes engine spec, which features reliability improvements and a minor power boost. The team will not introduce the new power unit at the British Grand Prix, unlike other Mercedes customers such as Alpine and Williams.
The decision is related to the fact that McLaren's current engine still has mileage left, due to its early season reliability woes. The team is behind on distance covered compared to other squads, with Alpine having completed over 1200km extra distance.

McLaren's delay in upgrading to the latest engine spec may be short-lived, as the team is likely to introduce its third power unit at the next race in Belgium if it adds significant distance to its current engine over the Silverstone weekend.
