Jorge Martin has been penalized with a double long lap penalty for his role in a Turn 1 pile-up at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The incident occurred when Martin lost control of his bike under braking and collided with teammate Marco Bezzecchi.
The penalty is consistent with previous rulings by chief steward Simon Crafar, which dictate that actions creating dangerous situations for multiple riders or causing a crash warrant a double long lap penalty.
Both Martin and Bezzecchi suffered contusions but were fortunate to avoid fractures. The incident also affected other riders, including Raul Fernandez and Fermin Aldeguer, who had their races ended as a result of the crash.
