MotoGP will shrink its engine displacement to 850 cc for the 2027 season, a change that most teams expect to translate into slower lap times across the calendar. The reduction also removes the ride‑height devices that have been mandatory since 2019 and trims front‑end aerodynamics, further limiting outright speed.
At the German Grand Prix, Marquez reclaimed the Sachsenring lap record from Fabio Di Giannantonio, posting a time that could be eclipsed next year despite the smaller engines. He told reporters the circuit’s short straights and high‑lean angles might allow a 1:18‑minute lap, even with the 850 cc package.

Team‑mate Pedro Acosta and fellow rider Luca Marini both stressed that tyre performance will be decisive. If Pirelli supplies a better compound for 2027, the reduced weight and comparable power could keep lap times close to—or even beat—the current record, while records set under the final 1,000 cc season are likely to endure on faster tracks.
