Lewis Hamilton snapped a historic first win for Ferrari at the Barcelona‑Catalunya Grand Prix, beating George Russell by 19 seconds after a three‑stop strategy and a brief virtual safety car period. The victory, his 106th career win, also halted Mercedes’ early‑season winning streak.
After swapping the Silver Arrows for Scuderia Ferrari at the start of 2025, Hamilton endured a difficult debut season, finishing sixth in the drivers’ standings and missing the podium for the first time in 19 years. He rebounded with a podium in China, then credited a mental reset – what he called “unplugging from the matrix” – for the turnaround. He spent the off‑season with family and friends, intensified his fitness regime, and worked closely with team principal Fred Vasseur to rebuild confidence.

Hamilton said the win feels “great” and proves that perseverance can restore form, but he cautioned that Ferrari still faces a steep climb to challenge Mercedes consistently. He praised the team’s recent aerodynamic upgrades, including a new rear exhaust and a rear‑wing element nicknamed the “Macarena”, and said the season is still early, with plenty of work ahead.
