The FIA announced that its tyre supply agreement with Pirelli now runs until the close of the 2028 season, guaranteeing the Italian manufacturer will continue to equip Formula 1 cars with its slicks for at least five more years.
The original arrangement, struck at the end of 2023, covered three seasons from 2025 to 2027 and included an optional fourth year. The FIA, in concert with Formula One Management and Pirelli, has exercised that option, extending the partnership by an additional year. The extension also covers the FIA’s support series, Formula 2 and Formula 3, meaning the same tyre specifications will remain in place across the feeder categories.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised Pirelli’s “consistently high standard of performance, innovation, and safety at the highest level of our sport.” The continuity is expected to aid teams in planning development cycles and preserve the competitive balance that tyre performance brings to the championship. Stakeholders will now watch for any technical updates Pirelli may introduce as the extended contract unfolds.
