William Byron’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway ended abruptly on Lap 233 when a left rear wheel came off his car, sending him into the Turn 3 wall while running fourth.
The incident capped a difficult summer stretch for Byron, who had slid from seventh to 12th in the championship standings before the crash. Despite the setback, he remains locked into the Chase for the Championship.
The team will now focus on diagnosing the cause of the wheel failure ahead of the next race.
