Aston Martin team principal and technical director Adrian Newey has admitted that the team has been guilty of not listening to its Formula 1 drivers, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, during the development of its car. The team has struggled this season, scoring only one point from the opening nine rounds.
Newey acknowledged the frustration of Alonso and Stroll, who have been unable to compete with the opposition due to the team's slow car. He explained that the team has been focusing on a long-term plan, rather than introducing incremental upgrades, due to cost-cap considerations.
The team is set to introduce a major car upgrade at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which will be followed by a second upgrade at the Dutch Grand Prix. Newey hopes that these upgrades will help the team to become more competitive and make its current difficulties a 'distant memory'.
