Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola has expressed that he would not disagree with a harsher penalty for Jorge Martin, who triggered a multi-rider accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Martin lost control under braking into Turn 1 and collected four other riders, including championship-leading Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi.
Rivola admitted it was difficult to digest Martin's mistake, especially given his status as a world champion. He also noted that the incident was different from a similar mistake Martin made in Japan last season.
The existing penalty protocols saw Martin receive a double long lap penalty for his next grand prix, but Rivola suggested that a stronger penalty could have been justified from a safety standpoint.
