Franco Colapinto will remain at Alpine for the 2027 Formula 1 season after the team rewarded his 2026 surge with a contract extension. The Argentine joins Pierre Gasly in the lineup, replacing speculation about his future following a breakout year. Colapinto stepped into a race seat mid-2025 after Williams’ late-season driver shuffle, then fought off competition to earn a full-time role this season.
His 2026 performance has justified Alpine’s decision: he scored in six of the first 12 races, including a career-best sixth-place finish in Montreal, and helped the team climb to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship. Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore initially questioned Colapinto’s readiness but later praised his development, calling him a "different" driver. Alpine’s minimum target for the year was sixth in the standings, which they’ve already surpassed.
The extension reflects Colapinto’s on-track progress, growing maturity, and strong rapport with Gasly and the team. Sponsorship appeal in South America and financial backing added weight to the decision. Alpine, now rebranding as Gucci Racing Alpine for 2027, aims to close the gap to the frontrunners and sees stability in its driver lineup as key to that push.
