Alpine has filed a request for a formal review of the penalties that demoted Pierre Gasly from third to seventh in the Monaco Grand Prix, with the hearing slated before the next race in Barcelona.
Gasly received two five‑second penalties for exceeding the 60 km/h pit‑lane limit by just 0.1 km/h each, a discrepancy linked to the curved entry and exit that shortens the measured distance. Team data suggested the cars were traveling at the limit, and Alpine even used a trundle wheel after the race to re‑measure the lane. While other drivers—including Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri—also served penalties, Alpine is the only team to pursue a formal appeal.
The French squad hopes the review will expose flaws in the FIA’s speed‑monitoring method and possibly trigger procedural updates, even if the race result is unlikely to change. The virtual hearing is set for Thursday at 1 pm CET, with drivers on media duty in Barcelona. Gasly said losing the podium “couldn’t hurt me more.”
