The US Navy has deployed more than 20 warships, including two carrier strike groups and an amphibious ready group, to the Middle East in support of the blockade of Iran. The blockade, which was reinstated after a brief lifting, aims to restrict maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.
The US military has warned that it will enforce the blockade against vessels transiting to or from Iranian ports and coastal areas, but will not impede neutral transit passage through the Strait of Hormuz to or from non-Iranian destinations.

The US Navy's presence in the region includes two carrier strike groups, each escorted by guided-missile destroyers, as well as additional destroyers, a guided-missile cruiser, and an expeditionary sea base. The US has employed various methods to enforce the blockade, including kinetically disabling non-compliant vessels.
