The US Navy has deployed a Littoral Combat Force to the Caribbean, marking the first deployment under its new more flexible deployment strategy. The force, designated LCF-24, replaced the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group in the region.
The LCF-24 is a purpose-built Marine Air-Ground Task Force with over 1,300 Marines and Sailors, and is certified to execute various mission tasks, including Quick Reaction Force operations and disaster relief activities.

The deployment is part of the Navy's new tailored deployments concept, which aims to provide force multiplication and allow the Navy to do more with less. The concept involves deploying smaller, more agile forces that can be tailored to specific missions and regions.
