US forces have interdicted the sanctioned oil tanker Davina in the Indian Ocean. The tanker, capable of carrying up to two million barrels of crude oil, was placed under US sanctions in October 2024 for Iranian oil trading.
The operation is part of the US effort to disrupt illicit networks and interdict vessels providing material support to Iran. The Indo-Pacific Command stated that they will continue global maritime enforcement to achieve this goal.
The Davina was last seen off Sri Lanka's southern coast on June 5, with its draft indicating that it was almost fully laden with an oil cargo. The US military's action is a significant move in the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran over sea trade and maritime security.
