The US Army has removed Lt. Gen. Charles Costanza from his position as leader of V Corps in Europe. The Army did not provide a reason for his removal, but confirmed that the matter has been referred to the appropriate authority. Brig. Gen. John B. Mountford is serving as the acting commanding general.
Costanza had been leading V Corps since April 2024 and previously served as the Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe-Africa. His removal comes amid a series of leadership shakeups at the Pentagon, with at least a dozen senior leaders removed or replaced since Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth took office.
The removal is not believed to be related to political reasons, according to an Army official. Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Feltey is set to assume command of V Corps at Fort Knox, Kentucky, after being selected for promotion to lieutenant general.
