British Prime Minister Andy Burnham heads to Kyiv on Monday for his first overseas trip since taking office, where he will co-chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing and meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Burnham’s office announced that the UK has agreed to allow MBDA, the European missile manufacturer, to release classified details on British-made components used in the SCALP long-range cruise missile. This move will enable France and Ukraine to establish local assembly lines for the missile, which relies on shared British and French technology.
The UK has been a leading supporter of Ukraine since Russia’s 2022 invasion, pledging over £25 billion in military and civilian aid. Burnham emphasized Britain’s commitment, stating, “Ukraine’s security is our security.” His visit follows Zelenskyy’s recent trip to London, marking a continued push to strengthen Ukraine’s defense production amid increasing reliance on long-range strike weapons.
