The UK Royal Air Force has clarified that the recent purchase of 12 F-35A fighters is not for their dual nuclear capability. According to an RAF official, the aircraft were bought for a conversion unit, not for the nuclear role. This statement has cast uncertainty over the UK's plans to restore its NATO nuclear strike role.
The UK Ministry of Defense had previously highlighted the F-35A's ability to join the NATO nuclear mission, but it now appears that the jets will be used primarily for training.

The F-35A's potential nuclear role is still unclear, and it is uncertain whether the airfield at RAF Marham, where the jets will be based, retains the necessary infrastructure for nuclear bombs.
