President Donald Trump has thrown the NATO summit into disarray by demanding the US cut trade ties with Spain and making renewed claims on Greenland. Trump called Spain a 'terrible partner' in NATO, citing a lack of support for the war on Iran.
The president's remarks overshadowed the summit, which European leaders had hoped would project unity and support for Ukraine. Trump spoke alongside NATO Secretary Mark Rutte, who has tried to address the president's concerns over defense spending and Iran.

The comments also undercut the pre-summit messaging that European NATO countries had increased military spending, with at least $50 billion in defense initiatives unveiled on Tuesday. Trump's demands have exposed cracks in the alliance, causing tension among leaders.
