Russia is constructing new military facilities near Finland to accommodate tens of thousands of troops. This move has prompted NATO to strengthen its defenses with a new Arctic combat force.
The buildup of forces and facilities in the region is a sign of the growing military and economic importance of the Arctic. Russia's expansion of military facilities along its borders with Norway and Finland is expected to house up to 80,000 soldiers.

NATO has established a new battalion battlegroup, led by Sweden, to support the defense of its northeastern flank. The US is also working to improve its presence and operations in the region, with the formation of Nordic Bridge to enhance Arctic integration and cooperation between US and NATO forces.
