The U.S. Department of State approved a potential $4.5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Qatar for up to four KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft and associated equipment.
The package includes eight PW4062 engines, radar warning receivers, infrared countermeasure systems, and logistical support such as training and navigation gear. The State Department said the deal would strengthen Qatar’s defense capabilities and interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.
Principal contractors for the proposed sale are Boeing, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, RTX Corporation, and Northrop Grumman. The U.S. government noted no additional personnel would deploy to Qatar for implementation and did not anticipate offset agreements at this stage.
The KC-46A offers greater refueling, cargo, and aeromedical evacuation capacity than the older KC-135s, supporting U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and partner nations.
