The first P-8A Poseidon aircraft ever built has started a new career supporting Pacific missile tests with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 30. The aircraft, also known as T-1, will help the squadron address difficulties with its aging P-3 Orion aircraft.
The P-8A will be used for range surveillance and clearance missions, keeping unwanted visitors out of the way during tests. It will also support test missions with its radar and sensor capabilities.

The arrival of T-1 marks a new chapter for the squadron and the Navy's oldest P-8A Poseidon. The Navy has been steadily withdrawing P-3 Orions from service, and the P-8A's core capabilities are well suited to the range surveillance and clearance mission.
