The U.S. Navy is leading a multinational effort to design a next-generation Evolved SeaSparrow missile under a Sources Sought notice closing October 19. The NSPO consortium, which includes 12 NATO nations plus Australia, Thailand, and the UAE, wants a weapon capable of intercepting threats ranging from sea-skimming missiles to high-G-force maneuvering targets.
The new missile, called the NSV SeaSparrow, must operate in complex electromagnetic and infrared environments, counter jamming, and handle massed salvos while fitting within a 10-inch diameter to launch from standard Mark 41 vertical tubes. It also needs modular, open-source software for future upgrades and interoperability across allied platforms.
The notice emphasizes releasable technical data for all consortium members, including Raytheon’s current Block II RIM-162 Evolved SeaSparrow production, which doubled to over 350 missiles in 2025 amid rising demand in the Persian Gulf.
