The US Navy has ended its two-month blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, with all military blockade enforcement efforts ceased. Despite the lifting of the blockade, the Navy will keep its ships in the area to ensure adherence to a recent agreement.
The agreement, signed by President Donald Trump, starts a 60-day ceasefire and ends sanctions on Iran, while also affirming that Iran will not make or procure nuclear weapons.
The continued presence of the Navy around the strait comes as the US and Iran have stopped combat but remain prepared for additional conflict. The US had redirected 142 commercial ships and disabled nine others during the blockade, with Marines and other troops boarding and seizing some vessels that tried to break the blockade.
