KNDS has proposed a main battle tank that combines a French-developed turret and gun with the hull of Germany's Leopard 2. The tank, dubbed Capint, is intended as an intermediate solution to replace the French Army's Leclerc tanks, which are nearing the end of their service life.
The Capint features an unmanned turret with a 120mm auto-loader smoothbore gun, with the possibility of upgrading to 140mm. KNDS aims to deliver the first units in the 2030s.

The French-German project to develop the Main Ground Combat System is delayed and not expected to arrive until the mid-2040s, making an interim replacement necessary. The Capint is intended to be a building block of the MGCS, according to Gen. Olivier Coquet, head of the French Army's technical section.
