Fiber-optic First Person View (FPV) drones operated by Hezbollah have altered the conflict in southern Lebanon, inflicting losses on Israeli forces. The drones, which use a spool of fiber-optic cable to maintain a direct link with the operator, are immune to jamming and electronic warfare measures.
The technology, previously seen in Ukraine, has been used to attack Israeli tanks, with Hezbollah releasing video footage of such an attack in late March 2026. The drones are estimated to cost between $300 and $400 each and are manufactured locally using 3D printing technology.
The use of these drones has given Hezbollah a battlefield advantage, with Israeli forces seemingly caught off guard. Analysts believe that the technology will continue to be a destabilizing factor in warfare until a proper solution is found.
