Germany is expanding its territorial missile shield with the deployment of a second Arrow air defense site in Bavaria. The new site, located in the greater Kaufbeuren area, will house elements of the Arrow Weapon System for Germany and complement the system’s inaugural battery near Berlin.
The decision to deploy the second site was announced by the Defense Ministry, with the new site intended to strengthen the system’s ability to detect and destroy ballistic missiles at altitudes above 100 kilometers. The expansion follows a broader pattern of accelerating Arrow procurement, including a $3.1 billion follow-on contract signed in December to expand interceptor and launcher stocks.
The full operational rollout of Arrow across multiple sites is expected to continue through the end of the decade, with the system providing early warning and protection for the population, critical infrastructure, and the military.
