The Royal Netherlands Navy will equip its fleet with Destinus Hornet B2 interceptor drones to counter medium-range drone threats, with a program slated for completion in the second quarter of 2027.
The system will include interceptors, ship integration, and support for an initial operating capability, adding a kinetic counter-UAS solution alongside existing defenses. The Dutch Ministry of Defence cited the rising threat of low-cost drones in maritime operations as the driver for the new capability.
Destinus describes the Hornet B2 as a cost-effective alternative to traditional missiles, using a rocket-boosted launch followed by electric-powered flight and AI-driven terminal guidance. The company says an earlier version, the Hornet B1, is already in serial production.
The Dutch Navy will provide operational expertise during development, shaping requirements to reduce post-deployment adaptations.
