The Australian Army's 3rd Brigade is undergoing a massive transformation, with a 630% increase in heavy armored vehicles and a 25% boost in personnel over three years. Brigadier Ben McLennan, the brigade's commander, highlighted the challenges of sustaining this armored brigade, which has the potential to be the most lethal formation of its type.
The brigade's heavy armored vehicle fleet expansion includes the introduction of new M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks, Hanwha AS9 Huntsman self-propelled howitzers, and Rheinmetall's Boxer 8x8 combat reconnaissance vehicles.

This growth in capabilities will require significant investments in logistics support, including fuel, ammunition, and maintenance infrastructure. The brigade's daily fuel requirement is expected to increase from 40,000 liters to over 300,000 liters, and its ammunition needs will rise from 30 pallets a day to 105 pallets.
